Statement from the Holocaust Remembrance Association

The Holocaust Remembrance Association condemns in the strongest possible terms the horrific, targeted attack on a Hanukkah celebration in Sydney, Australia, that took innocent lives and left many more injured. This was not random violence. It was an antisemitic act of terror carried out against Jewish families gathered to celebrate light, faith, and community.

This attack is part of a deeply troubling global pattern. Antisemitic threats, harassment, vandalism, and violence are increasing in frequency and intensity—and too often they are minimized, excused, or dismissed until tragedy strikes. History teaches us with painful clarity what happens when hatred is not confronted early and decisively.

Our mission is rooted in remembrance, education, and healing. Remembrance warns us. Education equips us. Healing calls us to act—not with fear, but with moral clarity and resolve. We refuse to cower in the face of threats or darkness. Instead, we choose to stand, to speak, and to be the light of justice.

In light of recent events, we want to reassure our community that for upcoming Hanukkah gatherings on The Green at Kings Harbor and at the Holocaust Garden of Hope, security will be present and appropriate precautions will be taken to safeguard all attendees. Safety is a responsibility we take seriously, even as we remain steadfast in our commitment to public remembrance and communal solidarity.

We call on our supporters and the broader community to take action: stand against antisemitism wherever it appears, speak out when hatred is normalized, and support organizations dedicated to education, remembrance, and moral courage. Silence is never neutral. In moments like this, choosing light is an action.

Never Again is not a slogan. It is a responsibility.

The Holocaust Remembrance Association exists to remember, reconcile, and take a stand against antisemitism in all its forms.
