A long-awaited moment of joy and reflection — Dr. Susanna Kokkonen, author of the Holocaust Garden of Hope, has arrived in Houston!
For years, Dr. Kokkonen envisioned this Garden from afar, bringing its stories and symbols to life through her words. Now, for the first time, she walked its paths in person — meeting the team, seeing each exhibit, and witnessing how her role in our vision has helped our garden blossom into a place of remembrance, education, and hope.
What began as a dream has become a living testimony. Welcome home, Dr. Kokkonen!
With Dr. K in town this past weekend, the Holocaust Garden of Hope also became a classroom of inspiration! Dr. Susanna Kokkonen led our docents and volunteers through a powerful training tour — sharing stories, insights, and the deeper meaning behind each exhibit. Her guidance reminded us that every tour, every conversation, and every moment of remembrance carries the potential to change hearts and minds.
If you’ve ever wanted to be part of something that makes history live again — consider becoming a docent or volunteer with the Holocaust Remembrance Association. Together, we keep the light of truth shining.
