Holocaust Remembrance Association joins the Catholic community in Houston and around the world in mourning the passing of Pope Francis and honoring his legacy.
To our dear Catholic friends and community,
We extend our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Pope Francis. May his memory be a blessing to all who looked to him as a spiritual father and leader.
We also take this moment to honor the legacy of those within the Catholic Church who stood for justice in times of great darkness. During the Holocaust, courageous priests, nuns, and members of the Catholic community risked their lives to protect Jewish families. Their quiet heroism continues to echo through history, and we remain deeply grateful.
May the Pope’s passing be a time of reflection, unity, and renewed hope for all who mourn.
With compassion and respect,
Holocaust Remembrance Association
What Is Pope Francis’ Legacy With the Jewish Community?
In this video, Rabbi Noam Marans, AJC’s Director of Interreligious Affairs, reflects on Pope Francis’ legacy—from his deep ties with Argentina’s Jewish community to his historic visit to Israel and strong stance against antisemitism. He also addresses recent tensions over the Pope’s comments on the Israel-Hamas War and highlights the ongoing collaboration between AJC and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in combating hate and building interfaith understanding.
The Holocaust Remembrance Association exists to remember, reconcile, and take a stand against antisemitism in all its forms.
