Missouri City, TX: Churches from the Missouri City and Stafford area are joining together to host a Holocaust March of Remembrance on Saturday, April 6th.  A prayer and awareness walk will follow a short opening ceremony at 9:00 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am.

The Holocaust March of Remembrance is a nationwide interdenominational effort by Christians to stand alongside the Jewish people in their remembrance of Yom Hashoah, “The Catastrophe.”  Following the inaugural march for the Houston area held in Kingwood in 2012, the effort has spread citywide in 2013 with seven marches being held over two days in the Houston Metro area on the weekend of April 6th and 7th.

Doug Stringer, founder of Somebody Cares and Honorary Chair of the citywide initiative stresses the importance of the march, “I believe that we’re in a critical place in our country.  The soul of our nation is at stake, the soul of a generation, and if the heart of this nation and the heart of the church doesn’t awaken and arise up to take responsibility and stand with Israel, and stand with our brothers and sisters, then our future will be diminished.  Our future is directly connected with how we deal with our relationship with Israel and to our Jewish brothers and sisters.”

Registration for the march will open at 8:00 am at The Freedom Center (formerly Quail Valley Church) located at 2303 Murphy Rd in Missouri City.  After the opening ceremony at 9:00 am, the one mile prayer and awareness march will begin at 9:30 proceeding south on Murphy Rd ending at New Hope Lutheran Church (1424 FM 1092 (Murphy Rd.).

Pastor Gideon Stanley of Gideon’s Army Church, the ministerial lead of the Southwest march, will emcee the memorial service which will begin at New Hope at 11:00 am.   Keynote speaker, Bill Orlin, will share his riveting story on how he and his family escaped the Holocaust.

The community is invited to attend this free event and is encouraged to preregister online at http://holocaustremembranceassociation.org/sw
