Al Marks, this year’s keynote speaker at the March in Kingwood, was sent to Auschwitz in 1944 along with hundreds of thousands of other Hungarian Jews. He was sent on to three other work camps and had little hope of survival. So when General Patton and the 80th Infantry Division liberated his camp, he describes it as having lifted the lid off his coffin.
This year marks 70 years since the German occupation of Hungary, and anti-Semitism is again on the rise. With an anti-Semitic party gaining ground in the Hungarian parliament in elections earlier this month, the March of Life in Hungary will be making a powerful statement when over 10,000 people gather from April 22-27 to declare, “Never Again”.
Mitch and Rozalie Jerome, Chairs for the March of Remembrance in Houston, have traveled to Hungary to participate in the march before they return to march in Houston on April 26-27. The march in Hungary has special significance for Rozalie, a second generation Holocaust survivor, as she will be marching in the land where her parents were rescued by Christians.
Come join Al Marks, Rozalie Jerome, and many other Holocaust survivors, descendants of survivors, and supporters as we march to honor and remember the lives of all those impacted by the Holocaust. Marches will be held this coming weekend in Baytown, Brenham, Kingwood and Webster on Saturday, April 26, 2014. And in Meyerland on Sunday, April 27, 2014.
