The Atrocities:  Perpetrators, Onlookers, Victims

The main issue to be addressed in this pocket exhibit is that we are personally accountable for how we respond to wrongdoing (such as abuse, persecution, slavery, etc.).  In each separate incident of abuse or victimization, I can choose (assuming I am not the victim) to be an onlooker, a silent observer.   I can also choose whether or not to be a perpetrator (which some Germans chose out of fear for their own lives or the lives of their loved ones).  In a very real sense, onlookers (or bystanders) aid and abet the perpetrators by remaining silent.  The idea is to address the personal accountability of each individual to stand up in some tangible way (speech, writing, or action) for what is right.  It is important to NOT remain silent in the face of injustice.  This exhibit will subsequently be referenced in Pocket #6, where rescuers (and upstanders) will be discussed.
